Avocado belongs to a group of evergreen fruit trees, commonly growing in the tropical zones of both Americas. At present it is grown mainly in south-central Mexico, Chile, Israel and the Republic of South Africa.
The fruit is pear-shaped, with green, scarlet or black skin that is usually smooth, though may appear slightly coarse, depending on the variety.
Delicate yellow and green pulp is full of nutrients. It contains nearly 30% of absorbable fats and vitamins: A, B1, B2, B6, C, H, K, PP and E. Even though avocado is high in calories, it’s properties are beneficial to those suffering from hypertension and anaemia.
Avocados are best when ripe, that is when they appear slightly soft. They go perfect in salads, creams or different spreads, or simply served spread on a slice of bread. Ripe avocados can be stored in fridge for up to 2 days.
