Coconut is a fruit of coco palm growing in tropical regions. It has a brown, hard shell with numerous fibres. Philippines, Indonesia, India and Mexico are leaders in commercial production of coconuts.
Coconut is a nut with unique nutritive values – including a rare group of saturated fatty acids that boost metabolism, therefore it is recommended to those on reducing diets.
Coconut pulp is rich in fibre, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus as well as folic acid.
White, fleshy and tasty pulp can be consumed on its own or added to salads and desserts (coconut shreds). It also contains coconut water called coconut milk.
