Dates are the dried fruits of date palms growing in north Africa, Egypt, Arabia and Syria. Dating as far back as three thousand years B.C, the best dates originate from Iraq, Tunisia, Algiers and Morocco.
With length of 5 – 8 cm and diameter up to 2 cm, dates have elongated shape. They are full of nutrients and high in calories. Dates are very sweet and contain 47%-55% of sugars.
Most frequently consumed dried, can be used in cakes and desserts.
In the Arab world they are added to fried and cooked dishes, to groats and rise.
Dates are used to produce syrups and even wine.
