Lemon grass grows in the Mediterranean region as well as in Georgia, Malaysia, India and Africa. The plant is quite tall and reaches ca. 80-100 cm. It has sharply ended leaves and forms extensive tufts of ca. 1 m width with green and red flowers gathered in spikes.
It has beautiful, lemony and slightly spicy aroma, especially when its blades are touched or rubbed.
Primarily used as a spice in Thai cuisine, it serves as an additive to soups, meats and curry dishes and is perfect for relaxing and refreshing brews that boost metabolism and are very tasty.
It contains plenty of vitamin C and ethereal oils. Citronella oil distilled from the leaves of lemon grass has a disinfectant effect and is used in cosmetic industry to produce deodorants and bath salts.
