Lichee is a plant cultivated in China and Southeast Asia. The fruits have rounded shape and are covered with thin, rough peel of intensively red colour, covering pearl-white pulp. Ripe lichee fruits are valued for their unique aroma and taste.
Despite their lightness and delicacy, lichees are so much more than just a tasty, exotic snack. They contain vitamin C and fibre as well as vitamin B, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, polyphenols, folic acid and sugars (fructose and glucose).
Its polyphenols delay the effects of skin ageing.
Lichees are typically used in dessert. They can be added to salads or served with ice-cream. Lichees go bad quickly, therefore are most commonly available in the form of canned preserved fruits.
