Grapes are berry-type fruits of grapevine, a plant that has been known to mankind for ages.
Grapes belong to the most common and valued fruits on Earth. Juicy, round- or oval-shaped berries of approx. 2 cm in diameter have sweet or sweet and sour taste.
Grapes have are sold in plenty of varieties, differing in colours, taste and shape.
Berries have different colours: from light green, pink and red to nearly black.
Grapes are recognised as a source of vitamins and minerals. They contain B group vitamins, vitamin C and A, potassium, phosphorus and calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper and iron. In addition, they belong to very few fruits containing iodine – necessary for proper thyroid gland functioning. They are also base-forming, which stimulates elimination of acids accumulated in the human body.
Grapes are widely used. They serve as a raw material for production of juices, jams, confitures and jellies. Grapes are fermented to produce wine, while grape pits are pressed for oil. They are usually consumed raw or dried as popular raisins.
Their valuable properties are also used in the cosmetic industry.
